Dhubri Lawyer Missing: Body Discovered at Mela Maidan, Police Investigate
The body of 47-year-old lawyer Abe Taher Anisur Alom was found under suspicious circumstances in the Mela Maidan area on Monday morning, alarming the residents of Dhubri and triggering an urgent police investigation. Alom, who lived in South College Nagar (Ward No. 14), went missing after leaving his home around 7:30 PM on Sunday.
Worry began to escalate when family members discovered that his mobile phone had been switched off later that evening. After launching a search, they located his motorcycle parked near the gate of Mela Maidan, but he remained unaccounted for. Alom’s uncle recounted, “My niece went missing around 7:30 PM on Sunday. We found his phone switched off and searched for him until 1:30 AM when we found his motorcycle. The next morning, his body was found floating. We don’t know how he got here.”
CCTV footage later revealed Alom entering the Mela Maidan area at approximately 9:30 PM on Sunday. The search concluded when locals spotted his body floating near the riverbank as a boat approached. Police officials, along with members of the Dhubri Advocates’ Association, quickly arrived at the scene.
The incident has sent shockwaves through both the local community and the legal profession. In response, the Dhubri Advocates’ Association has called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding their colleague’s mysterious death.
