Tripura MP Celebrates New Kanchanjunga Express Stops in Jolaibari, Belonia
West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb has expressed his gratitude to Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw for the introduction of stoppages for the Kanchanjunga Express at Jolaibari and Belonia in the South Tripura district. This express train plays a vital role in connecting Sabroom, the southernmost subdivision of Tripura, to Sealdah in Kolkata.
In a Facebook post, Deb stated, “I thanked Railways Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw for introducing two stoppages of Kanchanjunga Express at Jolaibari and Belonia on an experimental basis. Students, traders, elderly persons, and the general public will benefit from this decision.” Previously, the former chief minister had urged the Union Minister to establish these stops to facilitate travel for passengers from Sabroom who rely on this express service to reach Kolkata.
The trial stoppages are anticipated to improve regional travel convenience and enhance the socio-economic development of the area. Moreover, in addition to the developments in Tripura, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) achieved a significant milestone on May 1 by successfully completing its first-ever trial run to Sairang in Aizawl, Mizoram. This development marks a crucial step in improving rail connectivity to the northeastern state, making Mizoram the fourth state in the region with capital access to the national railway network.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, reported that the historic trial was conducted in the presence of Arun Kumar Chaudhary, General Manager (Construction) of NFR, along with other senior railway officials.
Furthermore, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, redevelopment projects are currently underway at 60 railway stations across the Northeast, with 50 of these located in Assam. This initiative aims to enhance the overall railway infrastructure and service quality in the region.
