Over 21 Lakh Homes Built Under PMAY-G in Assam: Exciting Updates Ahead!
Assam’s Panchayat and Rural Development Minister, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, has announced that over 2.1 million houses have been completed and an additional 700,000 are currently under construction as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) initiative in the state. He emphasized the government’s dedication to improving the living conditions of rural communities and indicated that a new survey will be conducted upon completion of ongoing projects to identify families still residing in temporary housing. This updated list will be presented to the Gram Sabha for approval.
Dass elaborated on the various facilities provided by the state government for economically weaker sections. These include housing, clean drinking water, electricity, and access to banking services, all aimed at minimizing the involvement of intermediaries in these essential services.
He also highlighted the government’s focus on women’s empowerment, referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting self-reliance among women. “As per PM Modi, every woman must be independent, and we are making efforts in the direction of Lakhpati Didi, with over 800,000 women already benefitting,” he stated.
Of the more than 4 million members of self-help groups in Assam, 3 million women have been identified to receive government support. Each participant initially received ₹10,000, followed by ₹25,000 in subsequent phases, complemented by a 50% contribution from banks, according to Dass.
This initiative is projected to inject ₹30,000 crore into Assam’s economy, significantly elevating the state’s GDP.
