Empowering Futures: A.P. Water Users’ Body Celebrates Naidu’s Bold Vision to Interlink Krishna and Godavari!
Water users from the Krishna Delta region gathered for a ceremonial Jala Harathi at Rangannagudem village on Tuesday, marking the release of water through the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme. The event was a celebration of the government’s initiative to facilitate timely irrigation for vast agricultural lands.
Allla Venkata Gopalakrishna Rao, president of the A.P. Water Users Associations’ Federation and vice-chairman of the Nagarjunasagar Left Canal Project Committee, lauded Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as a visionary leader. He highlighted Naidu’s pivotal role in interlinking the Godavari and Krishna rivers through the Pattiseema project, a decision that has significantly impacted agriculture in the region by providing much-needed irrigation water to millions of acres.
“Thanks to this foresight, 263 tmc ft of Godavari water has benefitted 13 lakh acres in the Krishna Delta,” Rao stated. He emphasized the boost this has given to both agriculture and aquaculture, adding that the initiative has generated an impressive ₹50,000 crore in farmer income. Additionally, during the corresponding period, Krishna district ranked second in India’s contributions to the GDP.
As farmers gear up for the second crop of the kharif season, Gopalakrishna Rao praised the government’s commitment to ensuring timely water releases through the Pattiseema scheme. He also acknowledged the efforts of Gannavaram MLA Yarlagadda Venkatarao, who has invested ₹2 crore in establishing motor systems to assist upland farmers in accessing Godavari water.
Notable figures at the event included Areti Hanumayyamma, Deputy Executive Engineer of the Polavaram Right Main Canal, and Thammashetty Rambabu, President of the Mallavalli Water Users Association. They, along with local leaders like Kasukurthi Rangamani, Sarpanch of Rangannagudem, underscored the collaborative efforts to maximize water access for the farming community.
The Jala Harathi celebration underscores the significance of water management in agricultural success and the strategic initiatives undertaken by the Andhra Pradesh government to enhance irrigation infrastructure. As the region looks toward a productive kharif season, the unity and determination of local farmers combined with government support are poised to drive further economic growth in the area.
This event not only highlights the immediate benefits of the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme but also sets a precedent for future agricultural initiatives in the state. The ongoing efforts to interlink the rivers promise to pave the way for sustainable farming practices, ensuring resilience in the agricultural sector as challenges related to water scarcity loom.
As more farmers rely on effective irrigation solutions, the celebrations at Rangannagudem serve as a reminder of the critical importance of water management in transforming the livelihoods of countless individuals and enhancing the agricultural landscape of Andhra Pradesh.
