BJP Alleges West Bengal Police Distortion in Student Rape Case Facts
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the West Bengal Police of conducting a biased investigation into an alleged gang rape case involving a Kolkata student. This accusation was made during a briefing to the media in New Delhi, where BJP leader Satya Pal Singh, a member of the party’s investigative committee, stated that the police have manipulated evidence in the case. Singh claimed that the name of the chief suspect has been expunged from the First Information Report (FIR), and he further accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of shielding criminals in the state.
The four-member BJP committee has proposed an independent judicial inquiry into the incident. Alongside Satya Pal Singh, the panel includes senior BJP leaders Meenakshi Lekhi, Biplab Kumar Deb, and Manan Kumar Mishra.
In a subsequent social media post, J.P. Nadda, the BJP President, indicated that the report illustrates a troubling state of lawlessness in West Bengal. He pointed out a consistent pattern of silence and inaction from authorities, along with protection afforded to the accused, mirroring previous incidents from Sandeshkhali to RG Kar Hospital.
