Sonia Gandhi’s Urgent Push to Unite Opposition Before Monsoon Session

Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have often faced challenges when calling meetings with opposition parties, with many of these initiatives failing in the past. This time, Sonia Gandhi is taking the lead to unite the opposition. The upcoming monsoon session of Parliament is set to begin on July 21 and will run until August 12. In anticipation of this session, Sonia has called a meeting for the members of the “India” alliance to decide on the key issues the opposition can address together.

Since the conclusion of the budget session, numerous significant events have unfolded in the country, including the attack in Pahalgam. The Indian Army has taught Pakistan a lesson in retaliation; however, the opposition believes that the Modi government has missed a golden opportunity to seize Pakistani-occupied Kashmir.

Questions have arisen as to why India suddenly agreed to a ceasefire, why information regarding military casualties is being concealed, and why the Prime Minister has not disclosed key issues during an all-party meeting. Additionally, there has been no consensus regarding a special session in Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam attack.

Moreover, in Bihar, the process of updating the voter list has raised allegations of a covert conspiracy related to the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Even after 11 years of the Modi government, issues regarding the social and economic conditions in the country remain unresolved, alongside rising prices and failures in addressing unemployment. Thus, the aim of the meeting convened by Sonia is to strategize how the opposition can effectively confront Narendra Modi in Parliament.

Sonia Gandhi has established good relationships across all parties and is respected by many. According to Congress, no one can disregard her when she convenes a meeting. She seeks to launch a strong attack on Modi while ensuring that no important intentions are left unaddressed. Hence, she is actively working to truly unite the India alliance ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament.
