Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alongside IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, inaugurated the Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC India) in Hyderabad on June 18, 2025. This landmark facility marks Google’s first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region and its fourth globally, underscoring Hyderabad’s growing significance in the tech landscape.

The GSEC India is a strategic convergence of Google’s global safety expertise and is designed to address the unique digital challenges faced in India. It integrates teams focused on privacy and security engineering, alongside advanced cybersecurity capabilities. The center aims to operationalize Google’s Safety Charter, which emphasizes protecting users from online fraud, strengthening cybersecurity for government and enterprise infrastructures, and promoting responsible AI development. This initiative positions GSEC as a regional hub for developing innovative solutions across the broader Asia-Pacific market.

During the inauguration, Chief Minister Reddy emphasized the center’s importance, noting that as digital engagement grows, so too does the need for enhanced security measures. “Google and Hyderabad are old friends,” he remarked, highlighting the long-standing relationship that began when Google established its first office in the city back in 2007. Reddy also called on Google to support the state’s efforts to economically empower women, as his administration seeks to create one crore millionaires through initiatives in sectors like public transportation and solar energy.

The establishment of GSEC aligns with Telangana’s ambition to emerge as a leading destination for global investment and technology innovation. Reddy proclaimed that Hyderabad serves as the primary link for investors looking to tap into India’s technology ecosystem. With the state targeting a $3 trillion economy by 2047, significant emphasis is being placed on skill development and fostering growth in emerging sectors.

IT Minister Sridhar Babu further highlighted the facility’s potential, describing it as a catalyst for innovation in cybersecurity and responsible AI development. He stated, “We welcome Google’s significant investment in Telangana’s ecosystem and look forward to the transformative impact this facility will have on strengthening our state’s position as a premier destination for cutting-edge technology research and development.”

The GSEC India is a testament to Google’s commitment to enhancing digital safety and security in a country that is rapidly digitizing. As cybersecurity becomes increasingly critical, the new center is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of technology in India and the Asia-Pacific region.

With this launch, Google reinforces its presence in Hyderabad, which continues to attract tech giants seeking to expand their footprint in an area recognized for its innovation and talent. The GSEC India will not only contribute to local economic growth but also bolster global standards in privacy, security, and the responsible advancement of technology.

This expansion not only signifies a strong partnership between Google and the Telangana government but also symbolizes Hyderabad’s emergence as a key player in the global tech arena. As such, the GSEC is a beacon of opportunity, innovation, and safety for the digital age.
