Heartfelt Loss: Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath Passes Away at 63 – A Legacy Remembered

Maganti Gopinath, the respected Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLA from Jubilee Hills, tragically passed away at 5:45 AM on June 8, 2025, at a private hospital in Hyderabad. He was 63 years old and had been hospitalized since June 5 following a heart attack. Gopinath had been dealing with kidney-related health issues for some time. He leaves behind his wife, Sunitha, and three children: Vatyalyanadh, Akshara Naga, and Dishira.

The political community is mourning his loss, with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, BRS chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao, and TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud among those expressing their condolences. In a show of respect, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao canceled his scheduled visit to Nalgonda district to support Gopinath’s family during this difficult time.

Gopinath embarked on his political journey in 1983 with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), quickly rising through the ranks. He served as the State president of the Telugu Yuvata from 1985 to 1992, a role that solidified his presence in youth politics. His early administrative career included an impactful stint as the director of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in 1987-1988 and the presidency of the Consumer Forum from 1988 to 1993. Gopinath was also instrumental in various capacities as the TDP’s Hyderabad district president.

His significant electoral breakthrough came in 2014 when he contested the Telangana Assembly elections from Jubilee Hills on a TDP ticket. He won decisively with a margin of 9,242 votes against the MIM’s Naveen Yadav. Shortly thereafter, he aligned with the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which later became BRS.

In the 2018 elections, Gopinath again represented Jubilee Hills, this time under the BRS banner, winning by an impressive margin of 16,004 votes over Congress candidate P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy. His leadership was recognized when he served on the Public Estimates Committee (PEC) in the Legislative Assembly that same year. Gopinath was appointed as the Hyderabad district president of the BRS Party on January 26, 2022, and achieved his third Assembly electoral victory in 2023, defeating Congress candidate Mohd Azharuddin.

Born on June 2, 1963, in Hyderguda, Hyderabad, to parents Krishnamurthy and Mahananda Kumari, Gopinath was active in public service for over four decades. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Osmania University in 1983. Beyond his political contributions, he also ventured into the film industry, producing several notable Telugu films, including “Pathabasti” (1995), “Ravana” (2000), “Bhadradri Ramudu” (2004), and “Naa Stiley Veru” (2009).

Gopinath’s dedication to public service and his significant political achievements have left a lasting impact on Telangana’s political landscape. His passing marks the end of an era for the Jubilee Hills constituency and the BRS community. As tributes pour in, he will be remembered for his commitment to his constituents and his contributions to the state.
