Tragic Discovery: Decomposed Body Found in Indore Gorge Amid Search for Missing Couple
Search and rescue teams recovered a highly decomposed male body on Monday, June 2, while searching for a tourist couple from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who went missing during their visit to popular trekking sites in Meghalaya. The remains were discovered in a deep gorge near Weisawdong Falls, identified through drone surveillance technology employed by the rescue teams. Authorities are working diligently to retrieve the body from the challenging terrain, and family members have been called in to assist with identification.
Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam had traveled to Mawlakhiat village in Elaka Mynteng on May 22, riding a rented scooter with the intention of visiting the famous Double Decker Root Bridge in Nongriat. After trekking over 3,000 steps down the gorge to reach the bridges, they stayed overnight, according to police reports.
On May 24, their abandoned scooter was found at a cafe along the road connecting Shillong to Sohra. Following this discovery, an initial search operation was initiated with the assistance of local villagers. Family members later filed a missing persons report, prompting authorities to launch an extensive search effort.
The search mission commenced on May 28 and has involved three specialized teams, supported by K9 units and drones from the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), alongside personnel from special operations teams.
