India’s Brave Stand: Self-Reliance Triumphs During Operation Sindoor as CDS Gen Anil Chauhan Exposes Pak’s Chinese Support
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan recently addressed think tanks from various countries during an engagement at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, claiming that India now surpasses Pakistan in numerous aspects, despite its greater diversity. He attributed this success to a robust long-term strategy that has strengthened India’s position over time.
General Chauhan highlighted India’s military capabilities during a recent conflict, revealing that the country conducted precision aerial strikes deep within Pakistani territory. He stated, “Most of the strikes were delivered with pinpoint accuracy, some even to a metre,” underscoring the effectiveness of India’s targeting methods. He elaborated on how India executed multiple attacks to strike Pakistani military infrastructure, emphasizing their prowess in overcoming enemy defenses.
During the discussion, the CDS praised India’s indigenous military systems, particularly during Operation Sindoor, noting that the country has developed its air defense network independently of foreign suppliers. In contrast, he suggested that Pakistan likely relied on Chinese resources. “India used indigenous systems like Akash with notable success, integrating multiple platforms, including foreign radars, into a cohesive defense system,” he said.
When discussing the India-Pakistan relationship, General Chauhan remarked, “We are not operating without a strategy. When we gained independence, Pakistan was ahead of us on every metric-social, economic, and GDP per capita. Today, India is ahead on all fronts, thanks to a long-term strategy.” He referenced diplomatic overtures made in 2014, emphasizing that mutual cooperation requires goodwill from both sides. “If all we get in return is hostility, then disengagement may itself be a sound strategy for now,” he added.
General Chauhan also spoke about the importance of military technology and intelligence. While acknowledging that commercial space and intelligence resources are available to both nations, he pointed out that India’s reliance on its own satellite capabilities is crucial. “I can’t confirm whether real-time targeting data was provided to them, but it’s plausible they sought help from their allies,” he noted.
The CDS outlined key aspects of Operation Sindoor, highlighting distributed force application, network-centric operations, and the significance of cyber and disinformation campaigns. He stated, “We’ve built our own networking infrastructure for air defense without relying on foreign vendors,” which has been essential in maintaining operational effectiveness.
Addressing the need for defense modernization, General Chauhan said India is moving toward self-reliance through initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat. “We can’t rely completely on foreign elements, especially for networked warfare,” he explained. He praised the potential of Indian startups and MSMEs in defense innovation, noting the country produces the highest number of STEM graduates globally. “Give them a defense problem and you’ll have hundreds working on it,” he said, emphasizing the untapped advantage this presents.
Finally, General Chauhan reflected on the economic implications of prolonged military mobilization, stating, “India has remained mobilized for months without engaging in combat, which imposes a huge financial burden.” This insight reinforces the strategic necessity of swift disengagement after operations to avoid hindering national development.
