Surprise inspections were carried out across multiple cinema theatres in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, as officials from revenue, fire services, police, and legal metrology departments took action amid ongoing tensions between the state government and film exhibitors regarding theatre operations. The checks targeted popular cities including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Amalapuram, Srikakulam, and Pithapuram.

The purpose of these inspections was to evaluate compliance with various regulations, focusing on 32 key parameters. These included the verification of essential licenses, pricing and quality of food and beverages, fire safety compliance, sanitation facilities, seating arrangements, sound systems, and the overall movie screening experience.

In many venues, the inspection teams discovered that food and beverage prices were notably high, raising concerns among consumers and officials alike. District Collectors are expected to receive reports detailing the findings of these inspections shortly.

In Visakhapatnam, a contingent led by Seethammadhara Tahsildar Ramesh conducted thorough checks on several single-screen and multiplex theatres. “We are following the government’s directive to ensure that theatres meet essential standards,” Ramesh stated during a media briefing. He emphasized the importance of providing a satisfactory experience for moviegoers, underscoring the need for theatre managements to uphold the basic amenities that patrons expect.

The recent actions come at a critical time when the film industry is grappling with challenges related to theatre closures, prompting the government to enhance regulatory oversight. The inspections aim not only to safeguard consumer interests but also to foster a healthier theatre environment in Andhra Pradesh.

As the regional cinema landscape continues to evolve, these inspections may play a pivotal role in balancing the interests of exhibitors and the government while ensuring that audiences enjoy a quality experience. The outcome of these checks and subsequent reports will be closely monitored by both stakeholders and cinema-goers alike, highlighting the ongoing dialogue surrounding the future of theatres in the state.

The concerted effort by various departments reflects a commitment to consumer protection and safety. As officials prepare their findings, the spotlight remains on how these measures will influence the operational landscape for cinema theatres across Andhra Pradesh.
