One cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) was apprehended, and an extensive cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, and military-grade weaponry was seized during operations in two sites in Imphal West district, Manipur, as reported by the police.
In a coordinated effort, security forces along with the civil police arrested Thounaojam Angangjao, also known as Maipak or Pakhang, who is 49 years old and hails from Koutruk Khunou Leikai, under the jurisdiction of the Lamsang police station. Angangjao was allegedly involved in extorting money from the local population. Authorities confiscated a mobile phone, a SIM card, and an Aadhaar card from him. Following initial questioning, another search operation was executed at Lairekabi Tera Urak Pali under the same police station on Wednesday.
During this operation, law enforcement recovered several items, including a modified .303 rifle with a magazine, two single-barrel guns, three pistols with accompanying magazines, two 5.56 mm INSAS rounds, a Baofeng handheld radio, two cleaning brushes along with parts for laser light fittings, two tear gas shells, one rubber bullet, three bulletproof vests, six plates believed to be for bulletproof use, as well as three pairs of camouflage combat uniforms, three camouflage caps, and one camouflage magazine pouch. These recoveries highlight ongoing efforts to combat militant activities in the region.
