Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has praised the accomplishments of Lt. Governor V.K. Saxena during his three-year tenure, emphasizing the role of what she termed a “four-engine” government in propelling the capital towards accelerated growth and development. Celebrating this milestone at Bharat Mandapam on May 26, 2025, Gupta highlighted Saxena’s assumption of office on the same date in 2022, during which he has navigated a turbulent relationship with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) amid various political disputes.

The Chief Minister noted significant political changes in Delhi, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) capturing 48 out of 70 Assembly seats in the February elections, effectively ending a decade-long AAP rule. In her address, Gupta reflected on the past 11 years under the BJP-led central government, praising the “good governance” experienced in the capital over the last three years under Saxena’s leadership.

“Today marks a significant chapter in Delhi’s administrative and developmental history,” Gupta stated, asserting that the city has shifted into “top gear.” The Chief Minister defended the “four-engine” structure of governance amidst criticism from AAP, which has accused the BJP of failing to address pressing issues such as waterlogging and rising private school fees. In contrast, Gupta pointed to initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership as instrumental in driving national progress.

Gupta emphasized various key initiatives, including Digital India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and Ayushman Bharat, all of which she described as reflections of India’s evolving stance on the global stage-particularly highlighted by its active participation in forums like the G20. She highlighted Modi’s capable leadership, asserting that it has fortified India as a nation and committed to the dignity and lives of its citizens through missions like Operation Sindoor.

In her remarks, Gupta characterized Saxena’s tenure as a transformative period for administrative reform and transparency. She commended notable projects undertaken during this time, including efforts to rejuvenate the Yamuna River, tackle illegal constructions, and implement various modernization projects across infrastructure sectors. Gupta’s praise for Saxena underscores a broader narrative of change and progress in Delhi, positioning his leadership as a critical component of the city’s developmental trajectory.

With Saxena at the helm, Gupta’s reflections underscore not just the current administration’s achievements but also its future aspirations. As the government continues to push for reforms and growth, the upcoming months will be vital in assessing its effectiveness amidst ongoing dialogue with the opposition.

The interplay of political dynamics in Delhi remains complex, and the BJP’s strategies will be under scrutiny as they work to uphold their governance promises to citizens. The coming period will reveal whether the “four-engine” governance model can indeed navigate the challenges ahead, forging a path of sustainable development and improved quality of life for all Delhi residents.
