Samsung Unleashes Revolutionary Slimmest Smartphone: A Thrilling Challenge to Apple’s Dominance!
SEOUL – In a daring bid to edge out its rival Apple, Samsung Electronics unveiled its sleekest flagship smartphone yet, the S25 Edge, on October 8, 2024. Touting enhanced artificial intelligence features, Samsung aims to capture the growing consumer demand from younger demographics, particularly those in their 20s and 30s, for more portable devices.
“The feedback was clear – users wanted something slimmer and easier to carry without sacrificing performance,” stated the company. To meet this demand, Samsung has re-engineered the internal components, streamlining the printed circuit board and thermal systems to achieve reduced thickness.
Analysts underscore the strategic timing of the S25 Edge’s launch, considering Apple is expected to reveal a thinner iPhone later this year. “By releasing the product a few months ahead, Samsung could influence Apple’s market dynamics and attract consumers on the hunt for sleeker smartphones,” remarked Ryu Young-ho, a senior analyst at NH Investment & Securities. This approach appears to be a calculated effort to capture a lucrative segment of tech-savvy customers yearning for cutting-edge design.
The S25 Edge is set to hit the shelves in South Korea on May 23, followed by a launch in the United States on May 30. Samsung plans to release the model in approximately 30 countries, including major markets like China and Europe. Priced from $1,099, the S25 Edge features a 6.7-inch display alongside a remarkably thin body measuring just 5.8 millimeters, making it marginally heavier than the standard S25 model.
Equipped with state-of-the-art AI capabilities, the S25 Edge introduces multimodal AI, enabling real-time interactions through both voice and visual cues, allowing users to leverage the camera for inquiries. While Samsung hasn’t disclosed the production site for the device, they expressed confidence in its performance capabilities.
Addressing potential concerns regarding device heat management and performance, Samsung Executive Vice-President Moon Sung-hoon emphasized, “Some may worry that a thinner phone compromises performance or struggles with heat management. We managed to engineer a thinner vapor chamber to fit the slim design, and we put everything into making that happen. We’re confident the S25 Edge can be used without concerns about overheating.”
Samsung’s ambitious move comes as it strengthens its position in the global smartphone market. Data from Counterpoint Research indicates that the company became the world’s top smartphone vendor in the first quarter of 2025, securing a 20% global market share, slightly ahead of Apple’s 19%. Nevertheless, Samsung recently indicated that second-quarter shipments might face challenges due to tariff risks potentially dampening demand.
As competition intensifies in the premium smartphone segment, Samsung’s S25 Edge stands as a testament to its commitment to innovation and responsiveness to consumer feedback, setting the stage for an exciting year ahead in mobile technology.
