Pakistan on Sunday expressed its appreciation for U.S. President Donald Trump’s “constructive role” in facilitating a ceasefire agreement between Islamabad and New Delhi. In a statement from the Foreign Office, Pakistan acknowledged Trump’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at resolving the longstanding Kashmir issue, emphasizing its significant implications for peace and security in South Asia and beyond. The statement reaffirmed that any resolution of the Kashmir dispute should be in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Further, Pakistan reiterated its commitment to collaborating with the United States and the international community to foster peace, security, and prosperity in the region. The Foreign Office stated, “We look forward to deepening our multifaceted partnership with the United States, particularly in trade, investment, and economic cooperation.”
Islamabad’s response followed Trump’s post on Truth Social, where he congratulated both Pakistan and India for agreeing to the U.S.-brokered ceasefire. Trump praised the leaders of both nations for their strength and wisdom in recognizing the need to halt aggression, which he said could have led to significant loss of life. He stated, “Millions of good and innocent people could have died! Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions.”
The U.S. president also expressed pride in facilitating this historic decision and mentioned plans to increase trade substantially with both countries. While Pakistan welcomed this offer for mediation, India has consistently opposed any third-party involvement in the Kashmir dispute, viewing it as an integral part of its territory. Trump emphasized his intent to work with both nations to seek a solution to the Kashmir issue, stating, “Additionally, I will work with you both to see if, after a thousand years, a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir.”
