Revolutionizing Futures: Empowering Change in South West Garo Hills’ Rural Training Hub
South West Garo Hills has made a notable advancement in rural development with the launch of its inaugural Community Managed Training Centre (CMTC) in Godalgre Village. Unveiled on Tuesday, the centre is a pivotal initiative aimed at fostering local ownership in skill development. Designed to accommodate 30 trainees at a time, the facility marks a crucial shift in empowering the community through education and training.
Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak officiated the inauguration, introducing plans for computer training programmes specifically tailored to equip young individuals for competitive examinations. This initiative is an integral aspect of the centre’s mission to enhance employability and skill proficiency among the youth.
A standout feature of the CMTC is its community-driven management. The centre operates under the leadership of the Unity Cluster Level Federation Women SHG Members Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd., supported by the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS). This model showcases an innovative approach to community engagement and management.
Equipped with modern amenities, the centre boasts two training halls, a dormitory, dining facilities, and dedicated space for guest resource persons. A team of six full-time staff, including a manager and coordinator, ensures the smooth operation of the facility.
During the inauguration, the Project Director emphasized sustainable revenue strategies to maximize the centre’s potential as both an educational hub and an income generator. The centre can be leased to other government departments and organizations, providing a sustainable financial model.
The inauguration ceremony saw vibrant local participation, with federation members performing traditional songs and dances by adolescent girls. Distinguished attendees included ADC RZD Shira, BDO Crystal Ripamchi N Sangma, and the Nokma of Godalgre Village.
Overall, the centre is poised to offer essential training and support services, strengthening grassroots development efforts throughout the district. This initiative represents a promising step in enhancing local capacity and driving sustainable growth in South West Garo Hills.
