Exciting Milestone: UGC Approval Boosts Assamese Department Upgrade at Visva Bharati University!
In a landmark development for the Assamese Department at Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved its transition into a comprehensive higher education entity. This significant move is set to boost academic and cultural strides in Assamese studies at the institution.
The UGC has authorized four out of six proposed teaching positions, comprising three assistant professors and one associate professor. This approval was officially communicated to the Visva Bharati Registrar through email today. Originally, the university submitted a proposal to the UGC in March last year, aiming to establish a fully-fledged Assamese department with six teaching and six non-teaching positions. Established in 1979 with just one professor, the department is approaching its golden jubilee in four years. This approval represents a crucial advancement, laying the foundation for a stronger academic structure.
The subsequent phase involves obtaining final clearance from the Finance Ministry, which is essential for the sanctioned expansion to take effect.
This endorsement from the UGC is anticipated to create new opportunities for research, teaching, and cultural endeavors, enhancing the illustrious legacy of Assamese language and literature at Visva Bharati University.
