The balkanization and ongoing tensions with Pakistan, alongside internal insurgencies in the North East and Naxalite movements, highlight the nation’s fractured approach to security management. These persistent threats are exacerbated by the absence of a strong, overarching strategy.
Terrorism in India is systematic, politically motivated, and often supported by external entities, as evidenced by groups like ULFA operating from beyond Indian borders. Despite varying tactics and identities of these non-state actors, their objectives remain clear and consistent.
Former Intelligence Bureau official Ashok Prasad advocates a proactive strategy involving four core actions: defending national assets, dismantling threats, countering adversarial ideologies, and preventing resurgence of defeated entities.
