Exciting Revival: Northeast Frontier Railway Triumphantly Restores Pre-Pandemic Train Services!
Guwahati: Starting January 2025, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will revert to the original numbering system for all 60 pairs of passenger trains, as per directives from the Railway Board. This change marks a return to the pre-COVID-19 system, moving away from the temporary ‘0’ numbering implemented during the pandemic.
All passenger trains operated by NF Railway, including those with ICF, DEMU, and LHB coaches, will adopt their original train numbers and maintain previous frequencies. The distribution of these trains includes four pairs from Tinsukia Division, 19 pairs from Lumding Division, 10 pairs from Rangiya Division, six pairs from Alipurduar Division in West Bengal, and 21 pairs from Katihar Division in Bihar.
Passengers can access comprehensive details about train schedules, timings, and stoppages through the IRCTC website and NF Railway’s social media platforms. The switch back to original numbering also signifies a departure from the higher fare special trains that operated during the pandemic period of 2020-21.
The NF Railway spans over 6,400 kilometers, covering the northeastern states, parts of West Bengal, and northern Bihar. Passenger safety and efficiency have always been a priority, evidenced by recent enhancements such as the installation of Thick Web Switch Point machines with clamp-type locking at 31 stations. Additionally, the NF Railway has upgraded its signaling systems across several sections to further improve safety and operational efficiency.
These efforts underscore the ongoing commitment of the NF Railway towards providing a safe, efficient, and passenger-friendly service as the region transitions out of pandemic-era measures.
