While CM Atishi Attends PTM at Delhi School, Sanitation Workers’ Heartfelt Struggles Over ‘Delayed’ Salaries Unveiled
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi attended a mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Kalkaji on Saturday, engaging with students and parents and collecting feedback on the PTM initiative, which began under former CM Arvind Kejriwal. However, the event was overshadowed by grievances from the school’s sanitation workers, who revealed their ongoing struggles with delayed salaries. Many workers reported not receiving payment for months, leading to severe financial distress.
One worker, Reena, explained that they faced a three-month salary delay that was only resolved after appealing directly to CM Atishi. She highlighted that this issue has persisted for over two years, often prompting the principal to personally assist them financially. The workers are advocating for job confirmations to secure their income. Ruby and Sonu, other workers at the school, echoed her concerns, pointing out that unlike the previous contractor, the current one consistently delays salary payments. Sonu further described the impact on his personal life, including difficulties in paying rent due to infrequent pay, despite an increase in workload.
The workers unanimously called for a resolution to these recurring payment issues, stressing the urgent need for a permanent solution to their ongoing predicament. The situation underscores the broader challenges regarding employment conditions within the government schooling system in Delhi.
