Remarkable Triumph: Inspiring Differently-Abled Man Constructs 800 Ft Bamboo Bridge to Transform Transportation in Majuli
Haren Saikia, a differently-abled man from Sesuguri-Charai Chapori Ghat in the Aahatguri region of Majuli constituency, has become a beacon of hope by transforming a transportation crisis into a vital lifeline for thousands. With the Brahmaputra River’s drying condition causing severe disruptions to boat services, students and patients found themselves stranded, facing daily challenges in mobility. Witnessing these hardships for six years, Saikia took it upon himself to construct an impressive 800-foot bamboo bridge to connect communities.
Despite Saikia’s repeated requests to the government for a lasting resolution to the area’s connectivity problems, no action has been taken, nor has he received any financial aid or support for his initiative. The bamboo bridge he built serves as the sole transportation route for residents spanning six districts: Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Majuli, Golaghat, and Jorhat.
Saikia’s efforts underscore a significant grassroots initiative addressing urgent community needs in the absence of governmental support. His bridge is now a crucial lifeline, ensuring that essential services such as education and healthcare remain accessible despite the geographical challenges posed by the Brahmaputra River’s conditions.
