Urgent Crackdown: Delhi LG’s Decisive Action to Combat Illegal Bangladeshi Immigration Sparks Hope for Safer Communities

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has mandated a special two-month campaign to identify and take action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the national capital. This directive came after concerns were raised by Ulemas and Muslim leaders over the increasing number of illegal infiltrators. The leaders had urged stringent measures, including denying these immigrants employment, housing, and educational opportunities, and repatriating them to Bangladesh.

The campaign will involve the removal of encroachments and the cancellation of any fraudulently obtained government documents, such as Aadhar Cards and Voter IDs. The initiative aims to ensure that these individuals are not given houses on rent or employment in Delhi. The LG’s directive also includes a close surveillance mechanism, requiring weekly progress reports submitted to his office.

The call for action follows concerns about the safety of minority communities in Bangladesh, fueling demands to prevent the spread of such tensions to India. The initiative, as directed by LG Saxena, involves collaboration between the Chief Secretary and the Delhi Police Commissioner, urging them to enforce strict compliance with the existing laws.

The Ulemas, in their meetings with the LG, stressed the importance of immediate action to protect public lands and ensure that infiltrators do not benefit from public resources. They demanded that local residents report any suspected illegal immigrants in their vicinity and that authorities take immediate action to rectify any illegal occupancy.

This move reflects a larger sentiment among various community leaders in Delhi to curb illegal migration and address security concerns.
