At Ahmedabad University’s 14th annual convocation, former Managing Director of Britannia Industries, Vinita Bali, underscored the crucial role of ethical decision-making, environmental stewardship, and community responsibility. Addressing students, Bali highlighted the alarming decline of Bengaluru’s lakes from 200 to just 51 over 60 years, attributing this to human actions prioritizing commercial developments over ecological preservation.
She urged graduates to embed values, integrity, and leadership in their lives, advocating for meaningful relationships not just with people, but also with the environment. “The planet is crying out to people like us,” Bali emphasized, urging for choices beneficial to both the planet and communities.
Bali further stressed the significance of curiosity, compassion, and empathy for personal and professional growth. She called for the responsible use of information and the importance of fostering a world of compassion and joy through informed and ethical actions. “Material progress has created new challenges,” Bali noted, emphasizing that these issues require more than knowledge—demanding empathy, understanding, and the forging of new connections.
Chancellor Sanjay Lalbhai, presiding over the ceremony, shared the vision of Ahmedabad University to establish India as a leader in the creation and dissemination of knowledge. Vice Chancellor Professor Pankaj Chandra encouraged graduates to apply their education towards making meaningful societal contributions.
During the ceremony, 830 students were awarded degrees, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey and equipping them to tackle contemporary global challenges with ethical and compassionate leadership.
