Breaking: Lalu Yadav Triumphantly Backs Didi to Boldly Lead INDIA Bloc Post-Pawar
RJD chief Lalu Prasad supported Mamata Banerjee’s aspiration to lead the INDIA bloc, an anti-BJP alliance, following Sharad Pawar’s endorsement. Lalu dismissed Congress’s objections, urging, “Mamata ko do” (give her the leadership role). In contrast, Congress downplayed the leadership debate, with Rahul Gandhi advising party members to regard it as media speculation and ally posturing.
Despite backing Mamata, Lalu has historically supported the Congress, particularly in the era when Sonia Gandhi faced issues over her foreign origin. However, other allies, including Shiv Sena (UBT), SP, and YSR Congress, have expressed dissatisfaction with Congress’s leadership, citing its lackluster electoral performance and unilateral decision-making.
There is growing criticism within the alliance about Congress’s handling of issues, notably Rahul Gandhi’s focus on the Adani issue, which some allies feel undermines opportunities to address more resonant topics like inflation in Parliament. Congress’s recent electoral struggles in regions like Maharashtra, Haryana, and J&K challenge its position as the alliance’s natural leader.
INDIA bloc’s lack of a structured framework and a unanimously agreed-upon agenda further exacerbates the leadership debate. Mamata’s claim to leadership challenges Congress’s stance on the importance of party size, aiming to recalibrate the alliance’s internal power dynamics.
Congress is reportedly displeased with Lalu’s remarks and Shahnawaz Alam, Congress secretary, emphasized the party’s leadership claim based on its strength. Alam questioned Lalu’s intentions and asked whether he suggested a change in the Leader of Opposition.
As tensions rise, the situation reflects growing friction within the opposition alliance over Congress’s continued leadership amid calls for more balanced decision-making and focus on issues that resonate with the electorate.
