Manipur Police Triumphantly Dismantles 59 Acres of Illegal Poppy Fields in Ukhrul and Kangpokpi, Leading to Dramatic Arrests

In a decisive move against illegal drug activities, Manipur police have eradicated 59 acres of unlawful poppy cultivation across the districts of Ukhrul and Kangpokpi, as announced by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on his X platform. This operation marks a significant escalation in the region’s ongoing war on drugs.

In Ukhrul district, law enforcement officials conducted a major sweep in the Mapithel hill range, Phungyar, where 45 acres of illegal poppy plantations were destroyed. The operation, a collaborative effort with the forest department, Border Security Force (BSF), and district administration, resulted in the arrest of two individuals. Those apprehended were identified as Letkhohao Haokip, 37, and Hegou Khongsai, 30.

Simultaneously, in the Kangpokpi district, authorities dismantled another 14 acres of illegal poppy fields near Thonglang Akutpa. An FIR has been filed, and further legal actions are being pursued against those involved in these illicit activities.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh commended the swift efforts of the law enforcement agencies, expressing gratitude on his social media for the coordinated operation involving Kangpokpi district police and 90 personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The operation, led by Additional SP (L/O) under the supervision of SP Kangpokpi, has been praised for its effectiveness in tackling illegal drug cultivation.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister recognized the exceptional contributions of the CRPF in these successful operations. He affirmed that the state government’s efforts reflect a strong commitment, shared with the Union government, to eliminate drug threats and advance the comprehensive war on drugs campaign.

These actions underscore Manipur’s determined stance against illicit drug production, aiming to curb the menace and ensure the safety and wellbeing of its citizens while demonstrating a robust governmental response to drug-related challenges.
