Thrilling Heights: Mizoram Paragliding Championship Attracts Elite Pilots from South Korea, Kazakhstan, and Indonesia
A major paragliding event has kicked off in Serchhip district, Mizoram, aiming to bolster adventure tourism in the region. The four-day international paragliding accuracy championship and airsports festival, inaugurated by Serchhip Deputy Commissioner Paul L Khuma on December 10, will run until December 13. Khuma, who serves as the Chairman of the International Paragliding World Championship Organizing Committee, expressed satisfaction with the collaborative efforts of the Mizoram Government and the Mizoram Aerosports Association (MASA) in facilitating the event.
This exhilarating competition features 30 pilots, including representatives from India—17 of whom are Indian pilots, with 8 hailing from Mizoram. The event also boasts international competitors from South Korea, Nepal, Kazakhstan, and Indonesia, highlighting its global reach and competitive spirit.
The festival’s closing ceremony is set to take place at the Zawlpui landing site, with Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma expected to attend as the chief guest. This gathering promises to leave a lasting impression, not only on the participants but also on the spectators, by promoting the beauty and adventurous offerings of Mizoram.
In addition to the thrilling aerial displays, the International Paragliding Championship and Aerosport Festival is playing host to a variety of stalls at Zawlpui, presenting the region’s rich culture and attractions to visitors. The inclusion of a Fish Angling Event adds further excitement, contributing to an overall festive atmosphere in Serchhip district.
