Government Triumphantly Rescues 75 Indian Nationals from Crisis-Hit Syria Amidst Rising Tensions
The Indian government has successfully evacuated 75 nationals from Syria amid escalating tensions in the region. Among the evacuees are 44 ‘zaireen’ from Jammu and Kashmir, who were previously trapped in Saida Zainab. The evacuees have safely crossed into Lebanon and will soon return to India via commercial flights. This evacuation effort was executed by the Indian embassies in Damascus and Beirut following New Delhi’s security assessment and appeals from Indian citizens in Syria.
The Ministry of External Affairs has emphasized the paramount importance the Indian government places on safeguarding its citizens abroad. Those remaining in Syria have been advised to maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Damascus through their emergency helpline (+963 993385973) and email (hoc.damascus@mea.gov.in) for further updates. The Indian Government continues to monitor the evolving situation closely.
In parallel developments, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has announced the creation of a sterile defense zone in southern Syria, aimed at preventing hostile forces from nearing Israel’s borders. During his visit to the Navy base in Haifa, Katz disclosed that both he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have directed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to establish this zone, which will be devoid of weapons and armed threats and formed without a permanent Israeli military presence.
He further stated that the IDF is finalizing its deployment in the buffer zone and other strategic locations to safeguard the Golan Heights and Israeli citizens. He underscored Israel’s resolve not to allow any extremist Islamic factions to pose a threat beyond their border. Additionally, recent Israeli airstrikes have targeted Syrian army installations, including a major attack on the Syrian fleet and a research center alleged to be involved in chemical weapon production.
The situation remains dynamic, and these strategic moves reflect both nations’ priorities on security and protection of their respective citizens.
