Empowering Change: Join the Vital Fight Against HIV/AIDS at Tripura’s National Consultation

Agartala, 9th December 2024: The Tripura State AIDS Control Society (TSACS) has launched a pivotal two-day national consultation in Agartala aimed at combating the spread of HIV/AIDS, specifically focusing on intravenous drug users. The event, held at a local private hotel, draws together a variety of stakeholders to strategize on effective intervention measures. Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, formally inaugurated the workshop, signifying its significance in the state’s public health initiatives.

In her welcoming address, Dr. Samarpita Dutta, Project Director of TSACS, outlined the workshop’s ambition to chart proactive steps toward addressing the HIV/AIDS challenge in Tripura. The event has garnered attention from key figures, including Tripura’s Chief Secretary, JK Sinha; Dr. Chinmayi Das, a Public Health Specialist with the National AIDS Control Organization; and Raval Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary for School Education and Higher Education.

Prominent attendees also include the State Director General of Police, Amitabh Ranjan, as well as District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, and senior officers from multiple departments, underscoring the cross-sectoral commitment to the issue.

Central to the workshop’s agenda is the pressing need to reduce the number of intravenous drug users in the state—a critical challenge to public health. Dr. Amit Debbarma, Assistant Project Director of TSACS, highlighted the initiative’s potential to protect the youth and curb HIV transmission rates, emphasizing its crucial role in securing the state’s future.

This marks the first large-scale workshop in Tripura solely dedicated to HIV/AIDS prevention, aiming to revolutionize the state’s approach to this pressing health crisis. Organizers and attendees hope that the dialogue and strategies developed during the workshop will lead to effective interventions and safeguarding of vulnerable groups. The event will continue with further in-depth discussions aimed at enhancing the initiative’s impact across the state.
