Experience Awe-Inspiring Wildlife: Arunachal’s New Bird Watching Tower at Borguli Village Unveiled!
In a notable move to boost wildlife tourism and conservation, Arunachal Pradesh’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife & Biodiversity) and Chief Wildlife Warden, N. Tam, inaugurated a new bird-watching tower in Borguli village. Situated on the banks of the Siang River, adjacent to the D. Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary, this initiative was witnessed by esteemed guests such as Additional Deputy Commissioner (Mebo) Sibo Passing, DFO of D. Ering WLS Kempy Ete, and key environmentalists.
Built by the Ratan Welfare Society under Mission Ta:tang and Eco-Clean Mebo Mission, the tower is designed to draw both domestic and international bird enthusiasts. During the inauguration, N. Tam emphasized the tower’s dual function as a tourist attraction and a platform for local employment opportunities, spotlighting the sanctuary’s biodiversity, including the critically endangered Bengal Florican, as a major draw for visitors.
He underlined the initiative’s role in showcasing eco-tourism’s potential to benefit local communities while conserving regional flora and fauna. Prof. Otem Padung from Rajiv Gandhi University praised the project, urging residents to leverage the area’s tourism prospects and engage local youth in conservation, thereby tackling issues like substance abuse. He also promoted sustainable activities such as boating and angling.
Kamal Bawa, founding president of ATREE, stressed the significance of community involvement in conservation. Highlighting ATREE’s efforts in the Siang Valley, he noted this project as a prime example of successful collaboration among local communities, government, and private sectors.
The inauguration included interactive stakeholder sessions, with notable participation from ADC Mebo Sibo Passing and RWS President David Ratan, who focused on preserving natural heritage. A symbolic tree planting of the bird-attracting Uriam saplings marked the event.
The bird-watching tower is anticipated to become a crucial hub for eco-tourism, biodiversity protection, and sustainable livelihoods in the Borguli region.
