Unforgettable Music Legends Unite: Experience the Electrifying Performance of Dave Gahan, Josh Homme, Chrissie Hynde & More
In a heartfelt tribute to the late Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees, friends, fellow musicians, and admirers convened at London’s Roundhouse to honor what would have marked his 60th birthday. Lanegan, the former lead of Screaming Trees who passed away in 2022 at the age of 57, was celebrated in a tribute show aptly named “Mark Lanegan – A Celebration.” The evening drew a remarkable lineup, featuring members of Queens Of The Stone Age, including Josh Homme and Troy Van Leeuwen, who frequently collaborated with Lanegan. Other notable performers included Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode, Chrissie Hynde from the Pretenders, Allison Mosshart of the Kills, and Greg Dulli of Afghan Whigs, among others.
The night was filled with poignant performances celebrating Lanegan’s musical legacy. Greg Dulli, with the backing band the Soulsavers, paid homage by playing the Gutter Twins’ “The Stations.” This choice was particularly meaningful as Dulli and Lanegan had worked together as the Gutter Twins, releasing their sole studio album, “Saturnalia,” in 2008. Bobby Gillespie then drew the audience into nostalgia with his rendition of Screaming Trees’ 1996 track “Sworn And Broken.”
Additionally, Dave Gahan offered a moving performance of Lanegan’s solo pieces—the emotive “Kingdoms Of Rain” from Lanegan’s 1994 catalog and “Hit The City” from 2004, capturing the raw essence of Lanegan’s solo work. The immersive evening continued with Josh Homme’s rendition of Lanegan’s “Carnival” from 1994, illustrating the depth of the late artist’s influence across rock music.
The event turned into a memorable, fan-filled tribute, capturing the spirit and talent of a musician who left a significant mark on those who knew him and those influenced by his music. Fan-shot video clips from the evening convey the electric atmosphere and the communal reverence for Lanegan’s enduring legacy.
