Outraged Mizoram MP Vanlalvena Fights Back Against Devastating Road Project Cancellation
Aizawl: Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena voiced his dissatisfaction over the cancellation of a crucial border road project meant to connect Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district with Chin state in Myanmar. During a meeting chaired by DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Vanlalvena highlighted that the Rs 66.08 crore Sangau-Saisihchhuah project was halted due to the selection of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) as the executing body instead of the state Public Works Department (PWD). He alleged that the project faced obstacles due to compensation issues, as BRO’s plan included crossing Pangkhua village, which deviated from PWD’s route proposal designed to avoid such complications.
Vanlalvena emphasized that this project was prioritized by the former Chief Minister Zoramthanga during the Mizo National Front administration. Expressing disappointment, he stressed that the allocated funds for the project should remain intact. In response, Minister Scindia assured that he would investigate the issue further and invited Vanlalvena for a personal discussion.
The cancellation of the border road project, intended to foster connectivity and development in the region, raises concerns over administrative decisions and their execution. Vanlalvena’s insistence on pursuing this matter reflects the ongoing challenges in managing infrastructure projects in the northeast. The resolution of such issues is vital for enhancing regional connectivity and fostering cross-border relations.
