Transforming Naval Defense: Govt Triumphantly Approves Over ₹21,000 Crore for Cutting-Edge Equipment!
The Defence Acquisition Council has sanctioned five major capital acquisition proposals valued at over ₹21,772 crore. Chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, the council granted Acceptance of Necessity for various procurements aimed at enhancing the Indian Navy and Coast Guard’s operational capabilities.
A significant part of this approval includes the acquisition of 31 new Water Jet Fast Attack Crafts for the Indian Navy. These vessels are designed to tackle Low-Intensity Maritime Operations, conduct Surveillance and Patrol, and execute Search and Rescue missions near the coast. Furthermore, they will play a pivotal role in Anti-Piracy missions, especially around India’s island territories, bolstering maritime security.
In addition to these, the council approved the procurement of 120 Fast Interceptor Crafts. These crafts promise versatile capabilities, such as providing escort services to High-Value Units including Aircraft Carriers, Destroyers, Frigates, and Submarines, thereby fortifying coastal defense frameworks.
The Defence Ministry’s strategic procurement plan extends its focus to aerial capabilities with the acceptance of six Advanced Light Helicopters for the Indian Coast Guard. These helicopters are crucial for reinforcing Coastal Security and enhancing Surveillance operations, particularly in sensitive coastal regions.
This comprehensive acquisition initiative underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its maritime defense and surveillance infrastructure, enhancing both the navy’s capability to secure the nation’s vast coastal borders and the coast guard’s role in ensuring safe maritime environments. The strategic move is indicative of India’s ongoing efforts to upgrade its defense apparatus in response to evolving security challenges.
Through these approved acquisitions, the Defence Ministry is poised to fortify India’s overall maritime security architecture, ensuring robust defense readiness and reinforcing the nation’s sovereignty and vigilance in the face of diverse maritime threats.
