The Tamil Nadu government has reaffirmed its request for Central government approval for several tourism projects, including the Shore Temple initiative in Mamallapuram estimated at ₹30.02 crore and a nature trail at Pykara costing ₹28.30 crore. During a meeting in New Delhi with Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Tamil Nadu’s Tourism Minister R. Ramachandran emphasized the urgent need for project approvals, citing rising tourist numbers. The projects aim to bolster the state’s tourism infrastructure, as highlighted by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
Additionally, the state has appealed to the 16th Finance Commission for ₹3,000 crore for heritage conservation and ₹1,200 crore for tourism development. Proposed endeavors include the Nandavanam heritage park in Mamallapuram, a Garden of Flowers in Ooty, and the transformation of Rameshwaram, collectively involving nearly ₹270 crore. The meeting in Delhi also saw participation from Tamil Nadu MP Tiruchi N. Siva and high-level officials from both the state and Union Tourism Ministries.
