Historic Comeback: Hemant Soren Triumphantly Takes Oath as Jharkhand CM for Unprecedented Fourth Time Today!
Ranchi is poised for a historic event as Hemant Soren is sworn in today, November 28, as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand. This comes after his Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led coalition secured a landslide victory in the state elections, winning 56 of the 81 Assembly seats. This victory marks the first time an incumbent government has returned to power after a complete term, and Soren’s fourth term as Chief Minister at the age of 49.
The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled at 4 PM at Morabadi Ground, will be overseen by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. Attendees are expected to include prominent figures from the INDIA bloc, such as Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Soren will take the oath in a solo ceremony, with the rest of the cabinet to be inducted later. Congress general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir noted that consultations for cabinet composition would follow. Soren has expressed that the day is a landmark for Jharkhand, emphasizing social justice and unity in his remarks.
This election is notable not only for its political implications but also for Soren’s personal triumph, as he retained his Barhait seat by defeating BJP’s Gamliyal Hembrom by over 39,790 votes. The JMM alone won 34 of the 43 seats it contested, with Congress securing 16, RJD four, and CPI (ML) two seats. The BJP-led NDA managed 24 seats overall.
Ranchi authorities, anticipating over 100,000 attendees, have declared a local school holiday to ease traffic concerns. Security around the venue has been significantly increased to ensure a smooth ceremony.
Leading up to the event, Soren met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a gesture of cooperative governance. He extended an invitation to the public to partake in the celebrations, either in person or via live stream, underscoring the inclusivity of this significant moment for Jharkhand.
