Urgent Plea: Raghavulu’s Passionate Appeal to Chief Minister for Veligonda Project Revival
A file photo showcases the Poola Subbaiah Veligonda project near Dornala in Prakasam district, as concerns grow over its delayed completion. The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has formally appealed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to expedite the completion of the Veligonda project. In a letter dated November 24, 2024, CPI(M) politburo member B.V. Raghavulu emphasized the urgent need for government action, urging the formulation of plans and allocation of funds necessary to fill the reservoir by the upcoming flood season in July 2025.
Raghavulu also stressed the importance of appointing a team of experts to oversee project progress and called for the prompt resolution of compensation payments to displaced families. He highlighted that work on the first tunnel needs completion within six months to connect it to the headworks and approach channel in time for the flood season.
During a site visit on November 12, following a government announcement that the project would be complete in two years, Raghavulu expressed concern over a plaque dated March 6, 2024, from the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government, falsely declaring the project’s completion. He accused the YSRCP of misleading the public ahead of elections and urged current officials to ensure truthful commitments.
