Outrage Erupts: Guwahati Restaurant’s Shocking ‘Beef in Chicken Biryani’ Scandal
Outrage has erupted in the Killing area near Guwahati after allegations surfaced that a local restaurant served beef in chicken biryani. The incident has triggered protests from various pressure groups, raising questions about food safety and cultural sensitivities in Assam.
The accusations were initially made by the Bir Lachit Sena, who claim that the restaurant, reportedly named “Lazeez Syem,” deceived customers by substituting cow meat in its dishes. The eatery is allegedly owned by a relative of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) chancellor, which has added a layer of controversy and concern about possible connections to the university.
Efforts by India Today NE to contact the restaurant’s owner revealed that the establishment was closed in the early hours of November 22. There are conflicting reports about the owner’s identity, with neighboring shopkeepers asserting that the owner is from Meghalaya and has no ties to USTM.
The situation came to light when a customer, accompanied by a Muslim friend, reportedly discovered beef in their chicken biryani. The Bir Lachit Sena has since filed a formal complaint at the Dispur Police Station, urging both USTM and local authorities to investigate the allegations and any potential links to USTM’s management.
The organization’s cultural secretary has highlighted that the supposed owner of “Lazeez Syem” is connected to USTM’s chancellor. According to his statement, a relative encountered the adulteration while visiting the restaurant, an allegation corroborated by a Muslim acquaintance of the victim.
The controversy over “Lazeez Syem” continues to evolve, with calls for a thorough investigation to address these serious claims. Stakeholders are keenly watching how the situation unfolds, as the incident touches on deeply rooted cultural and religious sentiments in the region.
