During the National Press Day celebration on November 16 in Dimapur, insights on the evolving landscape of media were shared by prominent figures. K Temjen Jamir, editor of the Ao vernacular newspaper Tir Yimyim, highlighted the indispensable role of AI in today’s technological era, noting its ability to perform tasks like writing and editing. He cautioned that even as AI begins to replace human roles, the ultimate responsibility for content accuracy remains with journalists. Jamir stressed the necessity for accountability in maintaining the quality and reliability of reporting, asserting that while the “nature of press” has evolved, its core mission—to inform and educate—remains constant. He underscored the media’s power to influence societal and governmental change, advocating for a commitment to truth and efficiency.
Dr. Aküm Longchari, editor and publisher of The Morung Express, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the principles of a free press remain unchanged despite new media formats.
