Anubrata Mondal’s Dynamic Leadership in Trinamool’s Birbhum Panel: A Transformative Force in Kolkata News
Anubrata Mondal, a senior leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was recently appointed to the party’s Birbhum core committee during a meeting held on Saturday. Mondal, recognized for his close ties with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been the president of TMC’s Birbhum district since 2009. His inclusion in the core committee follows his release on bail from Tihar Jail, where he was detained regarding a cattle smuggling case. Following Mondal’s arrest in August 2022, the TMC did not appoint a new district president.
Additionally, the meeting established that all leaders would have distinct jurisdictions, requiring permission to engage in another leader’s area. Last week, Abhishek Banerjee, a senior TMC leader and the party’s national general secretary, suggested that a core committee should oversee the Birbhum district, regardless of Mondal’s release from Tihar jail.
In response to Mondal’s arrest two years ago, Chief Minister Banerjee established a “coordination committee” comprising district leaders, MPs, and MLAs, who also managed this year’s Lok Sabha elections. Abhishek Banerjee proposed last week that this core committee should govern the party’s Birbhum unit.
The core committee now consists of seven members: Bikash Roychowdhury, Kajal Sheikh, Sudipta Ghosh, Abhijit Sinha, Ashish Banerjee, Chandranath Sinha, and Mondal, also known as Kesto da. Despite rumors, members have denied any internal conflict within the committee. Bikash Roychowdhury, the convenor, emphasized their unity and commitment to working cohesively. Kajal Sheikh, a key opponent of Mondal, expressed willingness to cooperate under Mondal’s leadership.
Some district leaders believe Mondal’s freedom in Birbhum is now restricted, with one leader questioning the requirement for Mondal to notify others before visiting a colleague’s area.
