Three Dacoits Arrested in High-Profile Robbery Case Involving Local Leaders and Fake Journalist in Guwahati

Guwahati: The Garchuk police have apprehended three individuals implicated in a daring heist involving prominent local figures. Among those arrested are Prasanta Kalita alias Prasanna, who fraudulently claimed to be a journalist from Morigaon; Dulal Dutta from Jorhat, a member of a local indigenous organization; and political leader Kartik Kalita. Another suspect, Manoranjan Baruah, has also been identified in connection with the case.

The incident occurred on September 25, when the suspects targeted a scrap dump in the Pamohi locality under Garchuk Police Station. Brandishing firearms, they seized a cash box and fled the scene. Swift police action followed a tip-off from the victims, leading to a detailed investigation.

During the probe, authorities recovered a magazine loaded with five bullets at the crime scene. One of the victims subsequently lodged a formal complaint at the Garchuk Police Station.

This incident has brought to light the involvement of high-profile individuals in criminal activities, raising serious concerns within the community. The police continue their investigation to uncover further details and potential accomplices.
