Guwahati: Another Minor Girl Allegedly Gang-Raped in Nagaon District
Barely a month after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men in Dhing, Nagaon district, another disturbing incident has been reported from the same area. A family has claimed that their minor daughter was gang-raped by two men on Friday while she and her brother were returning home after dropping off their grandmother. The accused are currently on the run.
Police sources have confirmed that a medical examination of the victim has been conducted, and the results are awaited to verify the rape allegations. The victim has been discharged from the hospital after receiving medical assistance. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. No injury marks were found on the girl’s body, according to police sources.
The previous incident occurred on August 22, when a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped while returning home from tuition class. Locals found her in a semi-conscious state and rushed her to a nearby hospital. The girl was allegedly taken to a secluded location by motorcycle-borne men and gang-raped. Her brother’s cries for help alerted locals, who rescued her and took her for medical examination.
In other news, a 16-year-old tribal girl in Jharkhand’s Khunti district was allegedly gang-raped while returning home from school near National Highway 75. An FIR has been lodged, and police are actively searching for the suspects. The victim underwent a medical test as part of the investigation.
Additionally, a mason and his acquaintance were sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping and gang-raping a 15-year-old girl in Muzaffarnagar in November 2016. The court’s decision was based on the testimony of six witnesses and other evidence. Both men were fined Rs 30,000 each, with an additional month of imprisonment if they fail to pay.
These repeated incidents highlight the alarming rise in crimes against minors and underscore the urgent need for stringent measures to ensure their safety.
