Director Surya Vangala Lauds Trisha’s Effortless Nuance in Powerful Telugu Web Series ‘Brinda’
Trisha Krishnan’s Upcoming Telugu Web Series ‘Brinda’ on Sony LIV Explores Ritualistic Practices
‘Brinda’, a new Telugu web series headlined by Trisha Krishnan, premiers on Sony LIV on August 2. Conceptualized by debutant writer-director Surya Manoj Vangala, the series delves into incidents involving ritualistic practices and human sacrifices.
Surya’s inspiration stemmed from real-life events in 2015-16 involving superstitious rituals he read about in Uttar Pradesh and other regions, sparking polarizing debates. These incidents inspired him to create the fictional town where Trisha’s character, a determined cop, investigates similar unsettling occurrences.
Surya’s journey from Visakhapatnam to the director’s chair is noteworthy. Coming from an academically inclined family, he pursued Information Systems at BITS Pilani but nurtured a growing passion for cinema. His career took a turn when he quit his job in an automobile company to join Anish Kuruvilla’s directorial team in Hyderabad. Having worked with notable filmmakers like Sekhar Kammula and Hanu Raghavapudi, Surya absorbed diverse filmmaking techniques and approaches.
The ambitious script for ‘Brinda’ spans over 400 pages, far exceeding the typical length of a feature film screenplay. With fine-tuning help from screenwriter Padmavathi Malladi and friends like dialogue writer Jay Krishna and composer Shakti Kanth Karthick, Surya sharpened the narrative.
Though initially conceived as a feature film, ‘Brinda’ evolved into a web series, which was quickly greenlit by Sony LIV in mid-2021. Trisha, initially hesitant, was captivated by the script’s depth and signed on, joined by actors Ravindra Vijay, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Anandsami.
Filming commenced in October 2021 across Hyderabad, Pochampalli, Kerala, and Madhya Pradesh. The production wrapped in 76 days, thanks to meticulous planning and a dedicated crew led by cinematographer Dinesh Babu.
As Trisha makes her digital debut, ‘Brinda’ promises to be a gripping investigative drama, exploring the fine line between ritualistic beliefs and rationality. Surya, now working on his next feature film script, anxiously awaits the audience’s response to his ambitious project.
