Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh Kickstarts "Ek Ped: Maa Ke Naam" Tree-Planting Campaign

Manipur’s Chief Minister N. Biren Singh took part in the "Ek Ped: Maa Ke Naam" (One Tree: In Mother’s Name) campaign, an expansive tree-planting initiative launched by the state’s Forest Department. The event was held at Chingpu Sabi Lairembi Ching in Lamlai and marks a significant move towards environmental sustainability in the region.

The campaign aims to plant a staggering 50 lakh saplings across Manipur, with an ambitious target to plant 30 lakh by the end of September 2024. This monumental effort hopes to foster a greener and more sustainable future for the state.

Chief Minister Singh enthusiastically endorsed the initiative on social media, emphasizing the campaign’s symbolic value. He likened planting trees in honor of mothers to the nurturing and protective roles that mothers play, drawing a parallel with the environmental benefits trees provide.

"Ek Ped: Maa Ke Naam" goes beyond mere reforestation. It seeks to strengthen communal bonds by weaving together environmental conservation and familial respect. The campaign encourages citizens to take an active part in improving their local environment while honoring their maternal figures.

By combining environmental stewardship with deep cultural sentiments, the campaign not only aims to rejuvenate Manipur’s greenery but also imbues the act of planting trees with personal and communal significance. Singh’s participation underscores the government’s commitment to both ecological balance and social values, setting a precedent for community-driven environmental initiatives.

This initiative is more than a governmental endeavor; it is a call to action for every citizen, urging them to plant trees as a tribute to their mothers and the planet. As the saplings take root, so too might the seeds of a stronger, more eco-conscious community.
