উগাণ্ডাৰ কুখ্যাত নৰখাদক গ্ৰেপ্তাৰ: ৩৮ জনৰ হত্যা আৰু ৰাজহুৱা মৃত্যুদণ্ডৰ ঘোষণা
Ugandan security forces have arrested a man accused of brutally killing 38 people over the past 15 years and consuming their flesh, in what officials describe as one of the most horrifying criminal cases in the country’s history. The arrest of Mujuzi Moses was officially announced on Monday evening by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the head of Uganda’s defence forces, via the social media platform X. The suspect is alleged to have carried out a string of serial killings between 2010 and 2025 across the Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo districts, and has been labelled the most notorious serial killer and cannibal in the nation’s history. The army chief further declared that Moses’s trial would be conducted publicly and that he would be sentenced to death.
According to local investigative agencies, Moses carried out the killings over a period of one and a half decades using extremely brutal methods. The suspect would enter homes under the cover of darkness by breaking through walls and attack entire families with machetes or similar sharp weapons, killing everyone inside. Notably, he did not use any firearms in these crimes. In the most gruesome incident, he drilled a hole through the wall of the home of Pentecostal pastor Steven Mugambe, entered the house, and slaughtered every person present inside.
In addition to targeting families, Moses employed a distinct strategy to trap women. He would first win their trust by making false promises of love and spending time with them. Later, under the pretext of spending time alone, he would either invite them to his home or attack them at their own residences, killing them with sharp weapons before subsequently consuming their bodies. Significantly, Moses had been arrested several times in the past, but he managed to evade justice either due to a lack of adequate evidence or by escaping from prison amid controversial circumstances.
Following his recent arrest, Moses has already confessed to 17 of the 38 murders attributed to him. Police conducted a search of his residence and seized several pieces of physical evidence linked to the crimes. Investigating officers are currently reviewing old records of unsolved disappearances and killings in the affected regions. However, the administration has made it clear that the serious charges against Moses will be proven in court through due legal process before any final sentence can be handed down.
