Five-Day North East NSS Festival Concludes in Gangtok with Grand Ceremony

Gangtok: The five-day North East National Service Scheme (NSS) Festival 2024 concluded on Friday with a grand closing ceremony at Manan Kendra, Gangtok. The event was graced by notable dignitaries including Deputy Mayor Tshering Palden Bhutia, Sports & Youth Affairs Secretary Yogeeta Rai, Sikkim Olympic Association President Kuber Bhandari, and distinguished guests from various departments.

The festival served as a platform to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the North East, featuring traditional dance performances from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim. Deputy Mayor Bhutia, in her address, emphasized the festival’s aim to promote unity among youth and inspire positive societal change. She expressed confidence that the NSS would continue to spearhead initiatives for progress and a brighter future.

Laleeta Chettri, the Deputy Director-cum-State Nodal Officer (NSS), provided an overview of the festival’s events, highlighting key activities that spanned over the past four days. Bodybuilder Sanjay Budhathoki, addressing the youth, underscored the importance of early involvement in sports for overall well-being.

The festival concluded with an awards ceremony celebrating the winners of various cultural competitions. Assam emerged victorious as the overall champions, with Sikkim claiming the second position and Arunachal Pradesh securing third place. Additionally, Arunachal Pradesh was honored with the Best Contingency Award.

This festival not only spotlighted the diverse cultures of the North East but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and unity among the participants. As it drew to a close, the event left an indelible mark on all attendees, underlining the role of youth in driving societal progress.

The successful execution of the North East NSS Festival 2024 stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of all involved and sets a precedent for future events aimed at celebrating cultural richness and youth empowerment.
