Wokha | July 18
A significant landslide has struck Wokha Village’s ‘B’ Khel area near APMC Wokha Village, causing substantial property damage. The entire building owned by Mhonyamo Murry was completely destroyed, while the residence of Thungjamo Murry incurred minor damage. As a result, Mhonyamo Murry’s family was compelled to evacuate by the evening of July 14.
In an interview, Mhonyamo Murry confirmed that local authorities, including the relevant department and district administration of Wokha, have visited the landslide site. Additionally, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Kohima has recommended that residents living above the landslide zone vacate their homes to avoid potential casualties and ensure safety.
Assisting the affected area, TTC Infra, the company overseeing the ongoing road construction, has taken active steps to clear the debris. Sanjay, the site in-charge, and Ajay, the General Manager, have committed extra resources to aid in the clean-up, despite it being beyond their typical responsibilities. They assured continued efforts to remove the mudslide and alleviate the damage while emphasizing the necessity for local cooperation.
It’s noteworthy that the ongoing NH2 Wokha road construction projects are being carried out in landslide-prone zones. To mitigate further hazards, the construction companies are diligently working on building retaining and protection walls.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with the authorities and construction teams for their safety and the smooth continuation of roadworks. This preventive measure is essential in maintaining safety and ensuring the efficient progression of the infrastructure project.
