The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly has commenced its eight-day budget session, marking the first budget of the Pema Khandu government since its third-term victory. One of the pivotal bills to be tabled is the Arunachal Pradesh Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024. This initiative aims to reform the government recruitment examination system in response to the 2022 Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak scandal, which jeopardized many students’ futures.
The newly drafted bill, approved by the Pema Khandu Cabinet last week, introduces strict penalties, including imprisonment and fines up to Rs one crore for offenses such as leaking examination papers. It seeks to ensure a fair selection process for all government posts by curbing malpractices.
Other significant bills to be discussed include the Arunachal Pradesh Amending Bill, 2024, and the Balipara/Tirap/Sadiya Frontier Tract Jhum Land Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The state’s financial statement for the 2024-25 fiscal year will be presented by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on July 24. Mein, who also manages the finance and planning portfolios, is expected to deliver a comprehensive budget during this session.
The budget session began with a motion of thanks to the Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik’s address and will conclude on July 26. The passage of these bills and the presentation of the budget are anticipated to shape the administrative and financial landscape of Arunachal Pradesh significantly.
