The Arunachal Pradesh government has set the eight-day budget session of the State Legislative Assembly to commence on July 19. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who also oversees the Finance and Planning portfolio, will present the annual financial statement for the 2024-25 fiscal on July 24. The session will kick off with a motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, with Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik having already addressed the House on June 14 and 15.
Three significant bills are on the agenda for the opening day: ‘The Arunachal Pradesh Amending Bill, 2024,’ ‘The Arunachal Pradesh Public Examination (Measures to Prevent Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024,’ and ‘The Balipara/Tirap/Sadiya Frontier Tract Jhum Land Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2024.’ The session is scheduled to conclude on July 26.
The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly comprises 60 members, with the ruling BJP holding a majority of 46 MLAs. The National People’s Party (NPP) has five members, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar has three, and the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has two. There are also three independent legislators.
This session marks the first budget presentation of the Pema Khandu government following its re-election for a third term. The outcome of this budget session will be closely watched, as it will set the tone for the government’s fiscal policies and development initiatives for the coming year. The strategic presentation of key bills and the comprehensive financial plan showcased during this period will be crucial in determining the direction of the state’s future growth and governance.
