Frustration Soars: Shifting Cab Pick-Up to Multilevel Car Park Sparks Air Passenger Outrage

Passengers at the Chennai airport are expressing dissatisfaction with the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) plan to move the cab pick-up point to the multilevel car park. Currently, the initiative is being tested with batches of passengers, but it has faced significant backlash due to several issues. One major concern is the lengthy walk from Terminal 4 (T4) to the car park, especially for those carrying heavy luggage.

Passengers like Satish Galley have voiced their grievances, highlighting the inconvenience caused by non-functional lifts. Galley recounted a particularly taxing experience where his sick wife had to push a baggage trolley without the aid of a working lift. Similarly, senior citizen Vasanthi Kannan shared her struggles with pushing a trolley up the ramp to reach the car park, noting that her niece also faced the same issue with non-operational elevators.

Frequent flyer Vidyasagar Jagadeesan pointed out another critical issue: the incomplete roofing over the walkway. With Chennai experiencing sporadic rain, the uncovered sections expose passengers to the elements, causing discomfort and frustration.

AAI officials acknowledge the complaints but are firm on moving the cab pick-up point to the multilevel car park as part of a broader strategy utilized at other airports in India. They claim a majority of passengers use personal vehicles, which can still pick up in front of the terminal. To address concerns, officials assured that efforts are underway to extend the roofing over the entire walkway. Additionally, more buggies will be introduced to facilitate transport from terminals to the parking lot.

In summary, while the shift to using the multilevel car park for cab pick-ups may optimize space utilization, AAI must address significant logistical shortcomings to ensure a smoother, more convenient experience for all passengers.
