Democracy Under Siege: CPIM Leader Jitendra Chaudhrury Accuses BJP of Stifling Tripura’s Voice
Tripura CPIM State Committee Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury has accused the BJP of undermining democracy in the state ahead of the Panchayat elections. During a tribute to CPIM candidate Badal Shil, who died following an alleged attack by BJP supporters, Chaudhury alleged that the BJP is afraid to face the voters. He claimed that since coming to power, the BJP has consistently disregarded the Constitution and democratic principles. Chaudhury, also a CPIM MLA and Leader of the Opposition in Tripura, stated that despite winning 80% of the votes in previous elections, the BJP is now apprehensive about their diminishing support base. He criticized the ruling party for turning the Lok Sabha elections into a “farce,” indicating their vulnerability and declining influence.
