Guwahati, Jul 8 – In a significant move to address Assam’s persistent flood issues, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, under the leadership of President Bhupen Borah, has taken decisive action during the visit of Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha. The state Congress party has submitted a memorandum to Gandhi, appealing for his intervention in the upcoming parliamentary session to highlight the pressing concerns related to the floods.

Bhupen Borah underscored the substantial challenges faced by the people of Assam due to recurring floods, emphasizing the need for immediate and effective relief measures. Expressing his gratitude, Borah took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to commend Rahul Gandhi’s continued support.

"Greatly inspired and encouraged by my leader Shri @RahulGandhi ji, who has always stood by us. We are grateful to him, as he has assured us to take up our issues at all appropriate forums regarding flood relief and adequate compensation," Borah tweeted.

This move aligns with the party’s broader strategy to secure necessary flood relief and compensation for affected individuals. The assurance from Gandhi is expected to bring the state’s plight to the forefront of national discourse, potentially leading to substantive policy discussions and financial allocations in parliament to mitigate the flood situation in Assam.

The memorandum serves as an urgent call to action, reflecting the collective hope of the state’s residents for a more resilient and prepared Assam. The Congress party’s initiative signifies a proactive approach to ensuring that the voices of those impacted by the floods are heard and addressed at the highest levels of government. With Gandhi’s assurance, there is a renewed optimism for meaningful intervention and support from the central authorities.

Moving forward, the focus will be on the parliamentary discussions and the subsequent steps taken by the government in response to this pressing issue.
